ARMCHAIR ANALYSIS

The word ‘analysis’ implies detailed examination and evaluation of elements of something. And when cricket is in the air, either as T20 or Test Match, one can witness analysis everywhere. We have experts, pseudo experts and newly indoctrinated souls espousing their levels of expertise. Well, if their views were sought, they are entitled to share and air. But what about the unsolicited analysis in the whatsapp groups and other social media? The amount of energy and time spent in analysis, arguments and counter arguments without any fruitful outcome leaves me feeling drained. Cricket was just an example…there are more viz. Ukraine war, plane crash, USA policies etc.
Analysis has its benefits when the outcome can contribute or influence towards a positive change. But a blame game analysis, which has to be withdrawn the very next day because of change of events, has to be given a rethought.
If this level of passion and energy were put into self analysis, many of us would have improved in leaps and bounds. Self analysis is a little difficult because we are either too soft on ourself or too harsh. An impartial feedback from peers and colleagues who know us very well would be very helpful for self assessment.
We need to have a visual of how we would like to be remembered at the end of our career. This is made possible when we have role models to emulate. I personally feel that we should observe people who we wish to be like. Take characteristics from them and pick up what aligns with our beliefs and values. We will now have a self created role model to aim for.
Now that the visual is clear, we will find all our actions and behaviour will focus on becoming this self created role model. And self analysis at regular intervals will tell us whether we are on track or not.
