Coaching as a profession

Coaching as a profession

I was toying with the idea of post retirement engagement for myself. I still have years left for that. And yet I thought that let me take my time to introspect and reflect on what I would be happy doing. As I began reflecting, I noticed a pattern emerge. I noticed myself being sought out by my ex-students for advice on professional or life related matters. And I was very happy mentoring them. But that does not convert into an engagement or business. Yet I allowed my mind to receive ideas in an unbiased manner and in a calm state of mind started sieving whatever thoughts came to me. I was unhurried as I did not have a deadline to meet. I started looking at my former students who had the guts to start an entrepreneurial venture and began to draw inspiration and energy from their activities. Again accidently after ages, in a reunion, I happen to meet Priyanka (a former student) who introduced herself as a Life Coach. This was new to me. Another former student, Nipam mentioned about NLP. This was also new to me.

I began my research in earnest. Took me two years to finalise that I would train myself to be a Life Coach. And here I am. Now that I look back, I realise that if I had used the services of a life coach, I would have  arrived at this decision in a shorter period of time. Having said that, upon completing my training and being coached by peer coaches, I have now the clarity of thought as to how my life coaching services will move forward.

If you ever decide to use one-to-one or a group coaching service, you can expect reflective inquiry from your coach. She will ask you thoughtful questions that will make you think about your values, desires and fears…. You will come out of the beliefs and assumptions that are holding you back and finally be able to unleash the potential within. Just as I have.
