I Don’t Love My Job

I Don’t Love My Job

Does the above phrase resonate with you? We have many reasons to not like the job that we are doing. Some of the reasons could be:

It is not challenging.

My potential is not being utilised.

The ecosystem is not conducive.

Leadership is not supportive.

Low paying job.

The list can go on.

Just keep in mind that you are not trapped. You have options to exercise. You can chose to leave the job and move to another one. Ofcourse, there is no guarantee that you will get a better one. You have to weigh the two options very carefully and select the one that is likely to give less distress and unhappiness. You also need to understand the consequences of your decision on your family life. It has to be a holistic decision.

Should you decide to continue with your job, think in terms of your circle of influence as suggested by Steven Covey in his book “Seven Habits of Highly Effective People”. Is there anything that you can do within your jurisdiction to enhance the quality of your work/life experience?

All years may not be equally challenging and exciting. You have it in you to create the excitement. If there is no excitement in the job, use that time to upskill yourself. Take a sabbatical and do a new course in the physical mode. You will get a great kick by interacting with other brains.  Or use this time to focus on your family: encourage and support the family to do something creative while you take care of backend work. These are just some thoughts. The idea is to reinvigorate yourself.

Bad times do not last just as good times. With a cool and composed mind, explore your options and think through. Have a person who can act as a sounding board and facilitate you to declutter your thoughts. There is always light at the end of the tunnel.
